Tour St. Nicholas Catholic church with us! Painted in 1937 by Maxo Vanka, an immigrant from Croatia, the church is known for its stunning murals that intertwine religious subjects with Croatian immigrant culture. Painting these murals gave Vanka the chance to “pay tribute to faith while expressing his passionate beliefs about social justice, injustice, the horrors of war” and help “to preserve and celebrate cultural identity among an immigrant population.“
We'll meet at 11:30 a.m. at the Cathedral of Learning and ride over together. Before the tour, we'll grab lunch at Bar 3 Millvale (food's on us!) where William Scott will lead a discussion on Vanka's are and immigration. Then we'll head up to St. Nicholas for the tour!
