Join PGH Christian Studies for a visit to a nearby Bruderhof community on Saturday, March 2. Meet new friends and learn more about intentional community.
RSVP by e-mailing email@example.com.
9:30 a.m.: Departure from Oakland.
11:00 a.m.: Tour of the Spring Valley factory, where products are made for Rifton, a company that makes high-quality equipment for people with disabilities. While factory work is often thought of as dehumanizing, the Spring Valley Community focuses on creating a work environment that dignifies both the work and the worker. The factories are high-tech, and are staffed by people of all abilities, from the youthful to the very elderly.
12:00 p.m.: Visit to the Spring Valley cemetery (this visit will be facilitated by Sheyann, a CS Fellow, who knew almost every person who has been buried there).
12:30 p.m.: Lunch with Bruderhof youth group.
2:00 p.m.: Departure with Prof. McDermott to Oakland. Estimated arrival time is 3:30 p.m.
Stay for a couple extra hours with CS Fellows from the Bruderhof. Join in a work project, play games with the youth group, and share community dinner in the large hall, returning to Oakland by 9:30 p.m. The youth group is especially excited to meet CS Fellows, and would love if people stayed for dinner!
The Bruderhof is an intentional community dedicated to living out the teachings of Jesus. For more information, check out their website here.
