Most of the music Johann Sebastian Bach composed was performed in church as a part of liturgy. And so much of Bach is best appreciated as prayer. That is the context in which we will hear three cantatas Bach composed for Good Friday, performed at Calvary Episcopal Church by Chatham Baroque, the Calvary Episcopal choir, and other local musicians. First we will gather at 6:30 for a simple dinner appropriate to Good Friday and an introduction to the Bach cantatas. (If you are fasting completely, by all means still join us for the talk and conversation.) The music and prayer service begins at 8:00.
Take the 71 B, 71C, or 71 D to 5th and Shady. It's a 4 minute walk to Calvary Episcopal, located at 315 Shady Ave.
