The world-famous murals of Maxo Vanka in St. Nicholas Croatian Catholic Church in Millvale imagine the passion of Christ in the midst of the Depression-era Pittsburgh steel industry. The murals will provide a context for a discussion of the theology of work. We will receive a tour of the murals from 10 - 10:45. Then, over a brunch involving Nutella and other fine accompaniments to good strong coffee, Prof. McDermott and Prof. William Scott (Pitt, English) will talk for ten minutes each about the biblical theology of labor and examples of how Christians responded to labor injustices in Pittsburgh's industrial history. This will be followed by open discussion of the murals, the meaning of work, the variety of vocations (including that of the student), and whatever topics you bring to the table.
